Code Of Conduct & Inclusion Policy

Code Of Conduct

The Diana Initiative aims to be a conference for everyone; that means we run a zero-tolerance policy on harassment against anyone, for any reason. We expect all organizers, volunteers, attendees, sponsors, vendors and participants to agree to and follow code of conduct guidelines. Should you have questions, concerns or doubts about whether an action would be in violation of the CoC, please contact conduct@dianainitiative.com

The Diana Initiative takes seriously any complaint of harassment but specifically those which target an individual based on (but not limited to) age, body size, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity & expression, physical appearance, race, religion and sexual orientation.

Any action or behavior that causes significant interference with convention operations, excessive discomfort to other attendees, or adversely affects The Diana Initiative’s relationship with its guests, its venues or the public is strictly forbidden and may result in permanent suspension of attendance.

Harassment of any kind, including physical assault, battery, deliberate intimidation, stalking, or unwelcome physical attentions, will not be tolerated at the convention. If people tell you “no” or ask you to leave them alone, your business with them is done. If you continue to attempt to have contact with those people, you may be removed from the premises. Remember: “Presence does not imply consent.” If you have been the target of harassment, we urge you to report the incident immediately to a member of Security or to Convention Operations. The sooner an issue is reported to us, the more appropriately we can address it.

The Diana initiative will investigate any report of behavior deemed as an effort to upset, annoy, or otherwise interfere with another person such as; hate speech, catcalling, unwanted attention, deliberate intimidation, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, stalking, following, and unwelcome sexual attention.

The Diana Initiative maintains the stance that sexual language and imagery are not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks, workshops, parties, Twitter and other online media related to the event. Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organizers.

As stated previously sponsors & vendors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors should not use sexualised images, activities, or other material. Booth staff (including volunteers) should not use sexualised clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise create a sexualised environment.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, The Diana Initiative organizers will take appropriate action to ensure that the conference remains a harassment free area. This may be as simple as a warning to the offender, however The Diana Initiative reserves the right to expel bad actors from the conference without a refund. Following an incident report after the event, the CoC Committee will investigate to determine if permanent exclusion from further Diana Initiative events is a suitable course of action.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed or have any further concerns, please contact a member of conference staff immediately. Conference staff can be identified as they will be wearing staff shirts or badges. If you do not feel safe approaching a member of staff directly, you can also make a report by emailing conduct@dianainitiative.com or calling/texting the dedicated CoC phone number listed at the event. The email and phone are staffed by a trained CoC committee member who will respond within 15 minutes during The Diana Initiative event or within 24 hours outside of The DIana Initiative events. This will put you in touch with a trained staff member who will listen to your complaint and discuss further action. All reports made will be retained and reviewed after an event by the CoC committee to determine if further action is necessary. Such reports will be retained for the duration of a sanction and 1 year after, after which they shall be expunged. While every effort will be made to maintain the privacy of those involved in an incident, The Diana Initiative reserves the right to make a minimal public statement should it be necessary.

Inclusion Policy

The Diana Initiative is an inclusive and safe space for people to come together and build friendships and professional relationships within the InfoSec Community. While The Diana Initiative is a women centric organization, it is also an inclusive organization with goals that extend beyond the exclusive needs of women. The Diana Initiative seeks to include the voices of all people, no matter their sex, gender, color, ability, nationality, or identity. All are welcome here.

As members and volunteers of The Diana Initiative we will not tolerate hate speech or violence against any group or individual. The Diana Initiative is not in the business of deciding the gender of our participants.

The gender spectrum involves narratives that are not always 100% predictable but are welcome in the space. We exist in a world that embraces the gender binary but we are not interested in perpetuating toxic narratives around gender binary. We want to hear the views of all genders (or none) and each unique experience – every voice is welcome and valued. We welcome the views of all race/ethnicity, and we want to hear your voice and stories. Come and just be you.

If there is any question regarding the gender of a The Diana Initiative participant, DO NOT call out the person in question or make them feel uncomfortable. If you do not know the gender of a person, DO NOT user male or female pronouns to describe that person, instead use neutral pronouns such as “they/them/their.” The Diana Initiative bathrooms are open to any person, there will be no policing of bathroom use. Concerns regarding participation should be sent to a Diana Initiative staff member or to someone wearing an orange Safety shirt or email conduct@dianainitiative.com
